Authored by Assemblymember Mike Eng
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Assembly Concurrent Resolution 76, authored by Assemblymember Mike Eng (D – Monterey Park), passed off the Senate Floor last night by a vote of 40-0. ACR 76, which is sponsored by the Yee Fow Museum, specifically designates December 17th annually as “Day of Inclusion” in the State of California.
“Although the repeal of the “Chinese Exclusion Act” marks a significant turning point in American society, some minorities still struggle for fairness and equality,” Assemblymember Eng said. “The recognition of the “Magnuson Act” represents a timely and excellent opportunity for our nation to rededicate itself to the suppression of intolerance and discrimination against immigrants and minority groups.”

OCA Sacramento has taken a lead role in the Sacramento Area and launched Census 2010 with the first meeting for the Sacramento API Census Committee on MAR 23, 2009. OCA Director Tom Bhe chairs the Sacramento API Census 2010 Committee as well as Linda Ng is the census coordinator for CAPITAL, an umbrella organization of over 100 API and other community groups in the Sacramento region. Attendance for the kick off meeting was good with over 50 people representing the various API communities in Sacramento as well as the Slavic and Muslim communities. Elizabeth Cantu from the US Census Bureau was there with a colleague and discussed the census and the process to roll out the census. Unlike Census 2000, there is very little money from either the state or local level to support outreach. It will be more on a volunteer basis. There is limited federal funding that will go specifically towards job creation for people who do the counting in the field and stations.
