OCA APPLAUDS FIRST VIETNAMESE AMERICAN ELECTED TO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 9 December 2008
WASHINGTON, DC;OCA, a national organization dedicated to advancing the social, economic and political well-being of Asian Pacific Americans, congratulates Anh "Joseph" Quang Cao (R) on winning LouisianaR17;s 2nd Congressional District seat to become the first Vietnamese American to serve in Congress.
Cao, born in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam, came to the United States when he was 8 years old. Now a 41-year old attorney, Cao has worked on civil rights issues throughout his career. After fleeing New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina and later returning, Cao not only rebuilt his home and law practice, but also assisted the residents of New Orleans East in their successful fight against a landfill that threatened the community.
