Since last year Sacramento API Census 2010 Committee has been working with state, county and city complete count committees. Sacramento API Census 2010 Committee helped get the word out to Sacramento’s various API communities in early 2010 that the Census 2010 Practice and Testing Program was available at two locations for those interested in working for the Census Bureau and that they would hire 2,000 temporary census workers in the Sacramento area. The Sacramento API Census 2010 Committee also help provide contacts for local ethnic based media to the state and local Census complete count committees that wanted to use the local media to target specific communities and promote the census. Since the summer of 2009 the Sacramento API Census 2010 Committee has hosted and participated in many community events promoting the importance of why the census matters and how it affects all Americans.
The Sacramento API Census 2010 Committee while hold a Census 2010 Rally and Walk at State Capitol on Saturday MAR 20, 2010 to kick off Census Week 2010. Members of the California, County of Sacramento and Sacramento City complete count committees will be on hand as well as elected officials. The highlight of the event will be the march through the downtown streets of Sacramento. Not only API community based organizations are encouraged partake but members and of the African American, Hispanic, Muslim, Slavic, BLBT and other communities are expected to be there. There will also be a community outreach fair with booths for the various organizations participating in the event to help get the word out, “Stand Up and Be Counted”!
