OCA Sacramento has long celebrated this traditional holiday, also known as the Double Fifth (fifth day of the 5th lunar month) which has been deeply rooted in Chinese culture. The festival is a time to reflect on the importance of loyalty and commitment to the community. We offer community a time to celebrate our heritage and honor distinguished community leaders. The program includes scholarship and essay writing contest awards to children and youth. Each year, we encourage our next generation to express their thoughts and ideas in their own creative writing.

OCA Sacramento cordially invites you to attend the 24th Annual Dragon Boat Festival with our theme of “Making it Count,” drawing attention to our advocacy work concerning the 2020 Census.
The Dragon Boat Festival began 2,300 years ago to commemorate the life of Qu Yuan, a Patriotic Poet and statesman, for his loyalty to his country and his advocacy for the rights of the common people in China. This festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Lunar Calendar. Since the month of May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in California, OCA Sacramento has selected May to symbolize this great occasion and host our annual signature fundraising event, the Dragon Boat Festival Celebration.
Proceeds from the celebration will benefit and support both OCA Sacramento and OCA National programs to serve the community that align with OCA’s mission such as: summer internships, youth essay contest, scholarship program, economic development summit, civic participation, young professional mentorship, leadership development, educational forums, senior luncheon, hate crime awareness series, and many more civic, cultural, and educational activities and projects.
